Hi Realtors! Or, maybe you’re listing your home For Sale By Owner? Have you recently flipped your house? Well, I’m glad you’re here. 😄Your client has a gorgeous home and you want the photos to showcase this honestly, so why does the house seem so small in your iPhone photos? Why does it look crooked?
Angles are very important in any kind of architectural photography and while your listing may not be the most architecturally significant building in Tennessee, but the same rules still apply if you want magazine-worthy images. Here are a few of my top tips on angles in Real Estate Photography:
Wide Angle Lens
Real Estate photography works best when shot with a wide angle lens. First I will note that there are a just a couple of exceptions to this rule: capturing details, line if your client has an ornate entry door or a really beautiful and unique light fixture. For 99% of the time a wide angle lens is your best friend because it allows more of the scene to come into view. When you want to capture the feeling of being in the home and taking in the view of the room, this is important! It’s equally important that the images are shot with a full-frame camera, an off the shelf wide angle lens on a crop sensor camera will not capture as much as a professional full-frame model. This is why you need to hire a professional!
Converging Lines
When shooting architecture the camera needs to be positioned with a controlled perspective. When you don’t have much control over the focal distance (you can only back up so far to get the shot of that powder room) adjusting so that the vertical lines are as straight as possible will make the image the most accurate.
Exterior Shots
My favorite trick for an exterior view of a simple home is one shot from the corner of the most interesting side (where the most windows, landscaping and other interesting things are – not the hvac compressor). This adds interest and makes the shot more dynamic. However, if your listing is already full of beautiful details or is a giant one, over 4,000 square feet it’s best shot straight on.
All this talk of angles making your head spin? Don’t worry. Together we’ve got this! In fact, 100% of my listings over the past two years have been under contract within 48 hours of being listed. Now, that’s team work! Shoot me a message today and let’s get the best possible shots of your listing to get the buyers lined up and get it SOLD in no time.
